There are many ways to protect your computer such as securing it with a password and adding a firewall to it to protect it from being compromised. Add to this that most computers today are “vulnerable” and as a result, the number of hackers continues to increase.

Protecting your computer from viruses and other malicious software with anti-virus protection can be one of the best things you can do to prevent these kinds of threats. Not only will you be unable to access your data remotely, but the person or persons who are trying to hack into your data could actually gain access to your computer, and of course steal all of your money and personal information.

Some may argue that an additional layer of security is not necessary, but let’s face it; we do not want to leave our data and private information sitting out in the open, let alone on a wireless network.

With this in mind, we should consider the following:

By turning off the computer when you are done using it, this is a great way to secure it. This gives your computer an extra layer of protection, while also protecting it from viruses, malware, spyware, and all the other dangers that malicious hackers are so determined to get hold of. All of your personal information, passwords, banking information, etc.

If you have an external hard drive, be sure to use it with your laptop or desktop to protect it. With this extra layer of protection, you can rest assured that if the need to restore from your external drive arises, your information is safe.

When traveling, always ask for directions to your destination from someone else, and never travel with your computer, always take your laptop or desktop. While traveling to a location where your computer is probably not allowed, be sure to take along your laptop, and while you are at it, be sure to take your phone as well.

While traveling on the road, use your laptop or desktop and be sure to take along your cell phone or other wireless network device. You never know when the need to make a quick call or send an email could arise, and no matter how much you feel secure, if you are travelling with your laptop and phone, then you are going to be extremely safer than traveling without them.

How to keep computer secure is not rocket science. You just need to be proactive about security, and be careful to never rely on anything less than top-notch computer security.
